Get Social With DanceCrazy/SalsaCrazy on Facebook and on Twitter (@SalsaCrazy)
Designed for beginners, DanceCrazy's 7-DVD set is designed to take you step by step through the entire learning process of all the major social Ballroom Dances. I started with DVD 1, which showed me the fundamental Ballroom Dancing concepts of timing and footwork. I've got a good sense of timing, since I'm a musician, but the footwork? Ack! ☺ I've got a lot to learn still! Ha! The 7 DVDs in this set cover the Foxtrot, Waltz (2 DVDs), Swing (2 DVDs), and Rumba (2 DVDs). I really like the fact that with these DVDs, I can go back and review as often as I want, so maybe by the time I reach 50, I'll have some of these dance moves down. I can hope, right? Each DVD is over 2 hours in length, with over 12 hours in the full DVD set. The actual lessons are detailed, containing closeup photos and step-by-step "picture in picture" format so it's quite easy to figure out the dance steps.
Here we are ~ the Ballroom Dancing Mastery DVD set GIVEAWAY!

Meet Missy and Gus! |
My friend, Heather, who used to work at a local animal shelter, discovered these two little ragamuffin cuties abandoned in a baseball field park where she regularly walks her dogs.
They were scrawny as anything, and about 7 weeks of age, from what the veterinarian thought after examining them.
They both had an upper respiratory virus which causes sneezing, wheeziness, and runny eyes and nose, much like a common cold that we humans get from time to time.
After three trips to the veterinarian, two rounds of antibiotics and eye cream, and lots of loving care by Heather and her family - and my family, they are finally doing so much better! We realize that they may deal with this upper respiratory virus their entire lives, or that they may be carriers of it throughout their lifetimes, but we took them knowing that this may be the case.
We initially thought they were part of the same litter of kittens, but now, we're not so sure. Missy is definitely 1-3 weeks older than Gus, based on what the veterinarian observed with their teeth on their most recent visit. It's possible they have the same mother who was possibly impregnated twice within a couple of weeks' time, but we're just not sure. It's also possible that they were from completely different litters but bonded together due to the need to survive.
Anyway, THIS is why you haven't heard from me as much this month. ☺ I've been holding and loving these sweet babies a lot, as well as making more of a priority to spend time with my teen daughters and husband.
I do have some blessings I can share about these kittens:
- They came litter-box trained and have had zero accidents so far!
- They are used to being around dogs, so when we dogsit for friends, it isn't a problem.
- They love to snuggle up in our laps. LOVE!
- They sleep almost all night long, allowing us to sleep.
- Our two older cats are tolerating them fairly well now. That was a concern at first.
- Gus, the long-haired cat, loves to be brushed. This was pretty important to us because of his very long hair. If he couldn't tolerate being brushed, that would mean he would be shaved to look like a lion or a poodle every June!
I'm wondering if any of you have ever rescued abandoned animals and raised them as pets? How has it gone?
The only training we are really needing to work on right now is that these kittens were fed some "people food" as babies, probably by visitors at the baseball park where they were living, so they can be a little bit of a pest when we are eating our meals. I don't blame them; they were starving for quite some time. So sad! I do know I won't need to vacuum up the kitchen as often because they are the little crumb-gobblers that come running when they hear me in the kitchen! Ha!
We've made a strong effort with our older cats not to ever feed them people food, and that has worked really well because they think our food is "gross"! They only want their own cat treats and cat food. So we'll have to work on these little babies and retrain them to stick to their own cat food.
But other than that, we're enjoying our little sweethearts. ♥♥♥
I hope your Thanksgiving was blessed, and you are focusing on the hope of CHRIST-mas. ☺

I haven't done a review and giveaway of any music CD's for quite a while now.
I'm picky! If my girls and I don't love the sound of the sample songs right away, we just say, "No thanks." Or if it's not family-friendly? No.
But this Christian band? Manic Drive?
They are great! I put the new CD in, "VIP" that releases on October 14th, and we all loved it right away. Woot!
Manic Drive has been widely known as a Canadian band who always delivers a great show, but over the past few years and project releases, they have added to their extensive touring of Canadian and U.S. markets multiple Billboard Top 10 & 20 singles on CHR and Christian Rock Radio.
It's not that important to me whether a song or group "makes it" to the top. What's important to me is the lyrics, the message.
Manic Drive is clearly very intentional about reaching their generation and inspiring them to pursue a deeper walk with Christ and to get involved in changing the world they are inheriting. And they are uniquely equipped to do so.
The band members, all in their early-mid twenties, have made sacrifices to pursue God’s call on their lives. Their life experiences, spiritual maturity, and ministry have opened doors to speak into the lives of their own generation - and that is perhaps the most defining characteristic of this group of guys.
I'm excited to be able to give away one new CD to a Joy In Our Journey reader! ☺ See below to enter the giveaway!

If you've been following Joy In Our Journey for any length of time, you know that I often will share reviews and giveaways of family-friendly DVDs. So our family was excited - even though our children are now teenagers - to receive VeggieTales' new DVD:
Beauty and the Beet: A Lesson in Unconditional Love
This brand-new VeggieTales musical was just released, and it is cute, clever, and touching all at the same time. I think it's one of my favorite VeggieTales DVDs I've seen yet!
Beauty and the Beet stars Kellie Pickler (American Idol, Dancing With the Stars), who brings her unmistakable voice to the role of Mirabelle, a sweet-potato singer whose family band is on the brink of superstardom.
Beauty and the Beet blends the irresistible charm of VeggieTales with a heartfelt message about unconditional love. The DVD also includes Mac and Cheese, a giddy new “Silly Songs With Larry” segment in which Larry the Cucumber reveals the surprising and heretofore untold history of his family’s unexpected contributions to Italian cuisine. This new DVD is just the start of the fun in store this fall for VeggieTales fans, because the gang will also star in a brand-new Netflix original series, VeggieTales In the House, which premieres Thanksgiving weekend.
Here's the trailer for Beauty and the Beet:
I'm excited to be able to give away one brand new copy of the VeggieTales Beauty and the Beet DVD! This is going to be such a great gift for your children, grandchildren, or neighbors or friends. You can also visit the official VeggieTales website and learn more about their new and upcoming movies...plus print off all kinds of fun games and activities for children! |

We use straws a lot in our home. I know, I know, it's kind of like the spoiled American thing to do, right?
So I have this giant bag of plastic straws that I bought at Costco. It takes us about 2-3 years to go through one big bag of straws, but we eventually do.
For those of you who cringe at the thought of throwing away all those plastic straws and their paper wrappers every day, I'm sorry. It doesn't bother me as much as it should, but it's starting to. A few years ago, though, we did begin transitioning away from using plastics with foods, and we have done better in that department.
I'd heard of stainless steel straws before, but hadn't ever bought any of 'em.
Probably because I had sooooooo many plastic straws in my house already, right? ☺
And I hadn't been all that crazy about the plastic reusable straws that I've seen and purchased. They're not as easy to clean out and reuse.
But these new stainless steel straws by Eco at Heart came my way, and I decided to give them a try.
Oh, my! I had no idea how much I would like these straws!
These 18/8 stainless steel straws are strong and durable, strong enough to double as a "stir stick"...very smooth...and w-i-d-e, and 8.5" long. They're not going to rust or bend. I really liked the W-I-D-E part. ☺ They're actually 3/8" wide, larger than a normal straw, and they are perfect for thick smoothies, shakes, and protein shakes. Just perfect! Even if my smoothie, shake, or protein drink has a few bits of fruit in it, no problem! I also have used these straws with "The Shrinker", a homemade, low-calorie oolong tea beverage I make. Because I like my beverages chilled and kept cold, these straws are great because stainless steel gets cold quickly, and I really like the chilled straw effect. |
When my stainless steel straws arrived in the mail, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they came with a miniature brush designed to clean out the straws. The straw cleaner brush works well - yes! But if you want, these straws are also dishwasher safe.
If you decide to purchase some Eco at Heart Stainless Steel Straws, you'll notice that for Amazon Prime members, the shipping is free. Yes, these are more expensive than plastic or throwaway straws. $14.97 for five straws is more expensive than the cheaper options. But these are going to last my family a lot longer than any of the plastic straws I've seen in the stores. And this will help us to no longer purchase the throwaway straws that only get one use. That's a good thing! When these are ordered through Amazon.com, you'll also receive a free eBook packed with 25 smoothie recipes. |

I don't know about you, but I'm a pasta lover - all the way. Me and pasta are best friends.
(Okay, you grammar Nazis - don't correct me!)
Well, all right. Pasta and I are best friends. Is that better? ☺
The problem is, I really shouldn't eat pasta, not since I began eating a low-carb eating plan (Trim Healthy Mama). And one of my daughters cannot eat gluten, so that makes pasta almost out of the question for her.
Sure, there are other gluten-free alternatives, but they definitely are not insulin-friendly or for those who are trying to lose weight. Even my favorite Dreamfields Pasta? Well, their company has changed their tune, and it is no longer being promoted as a low-glycemic pasta.
Rats.
After learning about the changes with Dreamfields Pasta and realizing my daughter needed to eat gluten-free, I began to look into other options. Someone on Facebook mentioned spiral slicers, and that piqued my interest.
Well, when I start researching something, I learn all kinds of things! ☺ I've learned that there are several types of spiral slicers, whose purpose is to slice vegetables into pasta strands for those who cannot eat pasta or are looking for healthier options.
There are the cone spiral slicers, like the Brieftons Spiral Slicer, below - and I get to give one away this week! Click on the Rafflecopter entry form below, or if you are reading this in your email, please click over to the post to enter or click on the link below that says "a Rafflecopter giveaway.”
You'll also commonly find what I call the "tabletop" style and the "covered pot" style of veggie spiral slicers. Each type has their advantages and disadvantages.
I've personally used two types of spiral slicers so far: the Brieftons "cone" Spiral Slicer, and another brand's "covered pot" style of spiral slicer.
Since I'm giving away one of Brieftons' "cone" type of spiral slicer, I'm mainly going to let you know how well this product works.
The Brieftons Spiral Slicer is inexpensive (under $13) and easy to use. It is small and takes up very little room in a kitchen drawer or cupboard. Nice!
The Brieftons Spiral Slicer, like other cone-style spiral slicers, is used much like a pencil sharpener, where the veggie is the "pencil", and the slicer is the "sharpener". After washing off your veggies or fruits such as carrots, potatoes, turnips, rutabagas, zucchinis, cucumbers, large radishes, apples, squash, pears, etc., peel off the skin if necessary or desired. Straight and firm vegetables and fruits work best with this type of spiral slicer.
Use one hand to hold the spiral slicer's stainless steel handles. Use the other hand to carefully insert your veggie into the spiral slicer's "cone", making sure that the vegetable stays straight in the middle of the cone. Twist it in with moderate pressure to create long strands of the vegetable or fruit.
When the size of the vegetable or fruit becomes shorter, use the provided "end cap" to attach to the end of the vegetable. This will help you to process the whole vegetable - or most of it.
Oh, and the Brieftons Spiral Slicer has two different julienne sizes on it: 1/16" x 3/32" (2 x 3 mm) and 1/8" x 3/16" (3.5 x 5 mm). These sizes aren't marked on the cones themselves, but by glancing at the spacing between the blades on each side, it's evident which side is which.
If you're more of a visual learner, you may watch the video, below, on how to use the Brieftons Spiral Slicer:
- Choose thick, firm and straight vegetables.
- Place the vegetable straight in the middle of the cone, making sure it does not lean heavily toward any particular side.
- Twist the vegetable into the cone with a consistent forward force.
- Use the included safety cap when the vegetable gets shorter to protect your finger and minimize your vegetable waste.
- Use the included kitchen brush to clean your spiral slicer right after use. This way, you won't be left with dried-on bits of fruits and veggies on your spiral slicer.
Note: If you are left handed, you can still use the Brieftons Spiral Slicer the following way:
- Place the spiral slicer in an upright position on a table.
- Insert the vegetable vertically into the cone, then twist and turn it with one hand (the left hand), while holding the spiral slicer securely in place with the other hand (the right hand).
| Basically, use running water and the provided brush that comes with it to clean out the vegetable/ fruit remnants from inside and outside the "cone". You can also pop this into the dishwasher, which is a nice option. |
Julieanne's thoughts about the Brieftons Spiral Slicer:
1. It took a minute to get the hang of it, but it wasn't hard to use, although it was harder to make consistent long strands of "noodles" than with the other spiral slicer I own.
2. I like the low price...very nice!
3. As I turned the zucchini into the spiral slicer, I was using effort and concentration to make certain I didn't cut myself. I'm thankful that it comes with a finger guard to help guide the smaller pieces of veggies and fruits into the spiral slicer so I wasn't cut up by the sharp blades.
4. Even though this looks harmless, it could be quite dangerous to a child, so make sure this is kept up and out of reach around younger children.
5. Will this truly make noodles? Yes, it will. They may not be quite as consistent in shape and size as some of the more expensive spiral slicers, but it does make vegetable strands, overall, for low carb and healthy vegetable meals.
6. This spiral slicer is designed to actually "core" zucchinis so that the seeds don't end up on your dinner plate!

Silicone baking mats replace the need for parchment paper, wax paper, oil, or grease!
However, when I received this BakeItFun Silicone Baking Mat, I realized that this new product was going to be a lot more fun to use! It's a standard half size baking sheet size, which is great, about 1/2" narrower in width than the Silpat. It fits my rimmed baking sheets better. This is a USA Half Size Baking Mat - 16-1/2" x 11" (280x420mm).
See the "ruler edge" on all four sides of the baking mat? I really like the measurement guides on all four sides because they make the mat so versatile. Nice for rolling out dough to the correct measurements! I also think the "cookie placement" circles on the sheet itself are a great option. I'll be using this for years to come.
Make French fries with no oils! There's no need to turn the fries or potato wedges half way through the baking time, because they evenly brown on both sides. Best of all, the crispy browned outside edge of the fries or wedges stay where they're supposed to, without being left behind on your pans. If you're eating the Trim Healthy Mama way, this will be perfect for E meals! |
Do you have other ideas for using silicone baking mats? If so, I'd love to be able to share them here with future readers, so please leave a comment below, and I'll add it to my list! Thanks. ☺

What could go wrong when Mommy leaves the house for an evening out with her friends...and leaves the children with Daddy?
What's the worst thing that ever happened with your children when you left home for a getaway evening with friends or family while your husband was watching the children?
Ha!
I'm trying to think of anything horrific that ever happened when my dear husband, Elmer, stayed home with the girls when they were young.
Hmm...I do remember a Sunday School teacher telling me once that Elmer would be a great father to the girls if I passed away or was too ill to care for them - except that their clothes would be mismatched and definitely not color-coordinated. ☺
I thought that was funny, and we had a good laugh about that. She pointed this out to me after I'd been away on a Sunday morning due to a reading curriculum conference I'd attended out of town.
IF you haven't seen Moms' Night Out yet, starring Sarah Drew, Sean Astin, Patricia Heaton, and Trace Adkins, you are in for a big laugh! This is the kind of story where you can basically figure out some of the plot, knowing that Daddy is going to have a disaster on his hands in taking care of the kiddos at home by himself, but there are some great twists and turns in Moms' Night Out that we all thought were quite funny.
And yes, even Elmer laughed a good, hearty laugh or two when we watched this together. ☺ He's the greatest guy, to go to the theater and watch Moms' Night Out with his wife and two daughters on Mother's Day. Awwwww...!!!
I'm giving away one DVD copy of Moms' Night Out, even though I wish I could select more than one winner! Moms' Night Out is rated PG for some mild thematic elements and some action. I think you're going to love this movie if you haven't seen it! The DVD/BlueRay version of Moms' Night Out is available September 2nd, so if you don't win the giveaway here, you may look for it in your local stores and online. Do you find it hard to find other movies and DVDs appropriate for children and families? Take a look at my reviews of other family-friendly movies and DVDS! |

Back in the day, we used tuna cans that had the bottom edge removed and smoothed so there were no sharp edges. They needed to be heavily greased before each use, or eggs would stick to them quite badly. If they weren't washed and dried quickly, they were prone to rust.
These days, I prefer to use nonstick egg rings like theseSunsella Silicone Egg Rings. They are nonstick, and easy to use. Here's how to make a beautifully round egg perfect for your next "Egg O'Muffin"! ☺
