Many families who educate their children at home have determined, over time, the type of curricula they want to use with their child's learning styles, budget for buying materials, and the amount of time the parent has available to spend with each child working on curriculum.
Sometimes, though, the expense of purchasing curricula is too intense for the family finances, and other less-expensive options must be found.
For some families, a change in pace is needed once in a while, or a medical condition or a family emergency can get in the way of continuing to work through the regular weekly material at home. For other families, some children and young adults just love worksheets!
That's where inexpensive annual memberships to online resources can be worthwhile. KB Teachers is an online resource that can meet the educational needs of some families, or enhance what a family is already doing together at home.
Our family received a free premium subscription to KB Teachers for us to try out their site and let you know what we thought about it. Quite a few of their resources are available for free on their website, although they may have a watermark on the page, for those who don't have a paid subscription, so you may want to take a look at the site and see if their offerings match what would work for your own family.
Here are some of the features you will find on KB Teachers:
In the subjects where upper level worksheets were available, they were in narrower subjects of which we aren't teaching and learning this year, or at least this term of school. While some of KB Teacher's worksheets will be useful in the future, we didn't find many that would work to accompany the curricula we are currently using. That's not the fault of KB Teachers; it's just that our own curricula plan doesn't match up exactly with the kinds of materials that KB Teachers has placed onto their premium website.
I viewed many of KB Teacher's worksheets, from the younger levels through the oldest levels, and they are of high quality. You won't be disappointed with that!
For those families who include 8th-12th graders, I think it would be nice to include a link to all of the upper level materials which are on the website, instead of needing to click each individual subject area, one by one, to see which might have worksheets appropriate to the age of my older children.
KB Teachers doesn't have a search bar at the top of their web pages, so I wasn't able to type in a subject word and see if any worksheets popped up around that topic or theme. However, the way they have designed their website, it appears that a search box isn't really necessary. I found it easy to navigate around their site using the categories they had already set up for us.
I don't want to forget to let you know that KB Teachers also rotates some of its worksheets on a monthly basis, to go with specific themes, holidays, and seasons. I think this is a nice idea, although I'm hoping that the themed worksheets aren't removed from the website after that season or holiday has passed. It would be nice for premium members to be able to access every page at any given moment of time.
KB Teachers provides new viewers a 10-Day Unlimited Free trial. Families who want to purchase a premium annual membership may do so for $29 for 12 months, or $49 for 2 years of membership. Especially for families who have more than one child, the worksheets and practice pages on KB Teachers, combined with stacks of free library books from your local library, could be an incredibly inexpensive resource for your family. Check them out!
