Doesn't that look like dessert with a straw? Yum! My daughter, Brittany, came up with this recipe in her search for a healthier, low-carb version of a Starbucks mocha frappuccino. Read below to print out my recipe printable for this delicious beverage! Since we're following the Trim Healthy Mama lifestyle plan of eating in our home, this is one of the types of beverages that we can enjoy. You should know that some people may be sensitive to using xylitol as a sweetener (some people get digestive/intestinal upset from it, and dogs are highly allergic to xylitol). Erythritol, however, doesn't cause intestinal upset, so I really do prefer it and absolutely love Swerve Sweetener, an erythritol-based no-sugar sweetener. Another fun option would be to use a combination of cocoa powder and mesquite powder, something I'd like to try. We've liked mesquite powder in everything we've tried so far, especially if it includes chocolate! (Mesquite powder gives a yummy hint of caramel flavor to foods.) Hint: to measure out 1/16 and 1/32 of a teaspoon, I use these amazing measuring spoons! Healthy Low-Carb Frozen Coffee Drink (Single serving)
Add all ingredients to blender or Magic Bullet. Blend until smooth. Pour into glass. Optional: top with stevia-sweetened whipped cream and no-sugar chocolate syrup. Trim Healthy Mama also has additional smoothies and beverages to use for people who enjoy different flavor and taste experiences. My advice for making their beverages and smoothies is this: make it to your own tastes. Do you feel like it needs more salt or sweetener? Or something else? Add in extra amounts of ingredients to make it work for you! Curious about some of the foods and products I place into my shopping cart each week using Trim Healthy Mama? Out of curiosity, have you tried this with glucomannan powder with this yet?

Where do you get that powder and Xanthan Gum? Stores that sell Bob's Red Mill products will often have the xanthan gum available with that. But when I need glucomannan powder, I either buy it from my local vitamin store, or order it online from Amazon or one of the other online health food stores. I've only tried the NOW brand, but Trim Healthy Mama sells their own version of glucomannan, and I've heard it's really nice.

Which kind of stevia would I replace the erythritol with? I can't wait to try this drink!!!
Reply
Jessica, I don't know if you're used to using stevia already, or not. It can be hard to find stevia that tastes good. NuNaturals actually changed their formulation in April 2013, so now it is more bitter and is not my favorite type anymore. Basically, the rule of thumb is to just use sweetener to where it tastes great to you! You may have to experiment a bit to find the right amount of sweetener that you enjoy.

Sounds delish. I know it would change the flavor some, but could you make it FP if you replaced the 1/2 n 1/2 with ff greek yogurt? I'm fairly new to THM, so I don't have all the guidelines straight yet.

We are not big coffee lovers but we tried the recipe twice. When we made it with the water it was too watery and with the coffee it was too strong. But don't worry Julieanne we still heart you.

Sorry, forgot to mention that we would recommend more sweetener and half coffee, half water. Still heart you Julieanne. Go THMs!

want to make it ,but I don't drink coffee, julieanne, would you recommend decaf or caf coffee?
Reply
Emily, it would all depend on how you react to caffeine from chocolate/hot chocolate, etc. If it perks you up and you're okay with that, then I'd suggest going ahead and using regular coffee. If you try to stay away from caffeine, then you would probably want to use decaffeinated coffee. Hope that helps!

Peggy, if you'll hover over the photo at the top of the page (of the frozen blended coffee drink), you'll see a "Pin It" button appear on the top left side of the photo, and a button on the right that will enable you to cross post it to Facebook and Twitter. Hope that helps!

Can I use Splenda?

I just made this and it came out great, even though I had to adlib a little with the ingredients. I used stevia instead of Swerve (haven't tried that yet) and didn't have any of the thickener's or additives. So it was basically coffee, whipping cream, ice cubes, vanilla, and stevia. Came out tasting perfect for a warm day like today. Thanks!

low carb is simple u don't need chemicals. Use coffee. Heavyweight whipping cream and a little pure cane sugar much healthier. Just watch the sugar that's all

I've read that it's 3.1 Net Carbs. But what amount of total carbs would it be? It looks amazing! If I could make this instead of going to Tim Horton's and Starbucks, that'd be great! My mouth is watering from even looking at this!

If I do actually keep track of carb counts, I calculate the net carbs, so I don't actually worry all that much about total carb counts. Feel free to input the ingredients and their amounts into an online nutrition calculator for yourself, though, if you'd like.

I AM ADDICTED! Thank you for sharing this great recipe! I made a couple of tiny changes for my personal needs - I use unsweetened Almond Milk instead of Half&Half and I put in 5 oz of cold coffee instead of 3, and I just use 2 little yellow packets as my sweetener but I LOVE THIS!!! I did everything else the same and I am so thankful that you posted this recipe, it's a perfect treat to myself as I work so hard to keep it all as lowfat, lowcarb etc as possible! It feels like a HUGE CHEAT but it sooooo isn't!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE

I’m going to make this but I’m really curious about the 1/3 cup of coffee! I’m going to need to triple the recipe to get my coffee fix😂. And that won’t come close to the 16 oz cup of coffee with 1/4 cup half and half I drink every morning.
