If you receive Joy In Our Journey's blog posts via email, you'll want to click back to the original posting to view the trailer and to enter the giveaway. Thanks!

If you've been following Joy In Our Journey for any length of time, you know that I often will share reviews and giveaways of family-friendly DVDs.  So our family was excited - even though our children are now teenagers - to receive VeggieTales' new DVD:

Beauty and the Beet:  A Lesson in Unconditional Love

This brand-new VeggieTales musical was just released, and it is cute, clever, and touching all at the same time.  I think it's one of my favorite VeggieTales DVDs I've seen yet!

Beauty and the Beet stars Kellie Pickler (American Idol, Dancing With the Stars), who brings her unmistakable voice to the role of Mirabelle, a sweet-potato singer whose family band is on the brink of superstardom.

Beauty and the Beet blends the irresistible charm of VeggieTales with a heartfelt message about unconditional love. The DVD also includes Mac and Cheese, a giddy new “Silly Songs With Larry” segment in which Larry the Cucumber reveals the surprising and heretofore untold history of his family’s unexpected contributions to Italian cuisine. This new DVD is just the start of the fun in store this fall for VeggieTales fans, because the gang will also star in a brand-new Netflix original series, VeggieTales In the House, which premieres Thanksgiving weekend.

Here's the trailer for Beauty and the Beet:

I'm excited to be able to give away one brand new copy of the VeggieTales Beauty and the Beet DVD!  This is going to be such a great gift for your children, grandchildren, or neighbors or friends.

You can also visit the official VeggieTales website and learn more about their new and upcoming movies...plus print off all kinds of fun games and activities for children!

Have your Pinterest and Facebook pages been filled with deliciously delightful looking pumpkin treats this week?

Are you craving Starbucks' seasonal
Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino Blended Coffee?

But are you needing to cut sugar from your diet?

Here's my favorite
Mock Starbucks Pumpkin Spice
Frappuccino blended beverage

that contains no sugar and is very low in carbs!

If you've enjoyed Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Frappuccinos in the past, here's what you've actually consumed in one beverage:

  • Starbucks Tall 12 oz. = 47 grams of sugar
  • Starbucks Grande 16 oz. = 72 grams of sugar
  • Starbucks Venti Iced 24 oz. = 92 grams of sugar
 Yikes!
Picture
Mock Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino
Blended Coffee Recipe

(low carb, no sugar)
  • 1 cup almond milk or light coconut milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chilled coffee
  • 3-4 drops of liquid vanilla stevia, if desired
  • 1/4 cup canned pumpkin
  • 2 Tbsp. THM Sweet Blend or 1/4 to 1/2 cup Swerve Sweetener or sweetener of choice (adjust to your preference)
  • 1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
  • several shakes of salt (adjust to your taste preference)
  • 2 cups ice
  • whipped cream or whipped topping (optional)
  • sugar-free caramel topping (optional)

Place all ingredients into blender in the order listed, except for whipped cream and sugar-free caramel topping.  Blend well until no chunks of ice remain.  Taste and add additional sweetener, pumpkin, and/or salt to your taste preference.  Top with whipped cream, if desired.  Drizzle with sugar-free caramel topping, if desired.

Quick and easy enough that you can whip this up in a jiffy and satisfy your cravings for such a wonderful pumpkin spice frappuccino, whether you are on the Atkins diet, Trim Healthy Mama, or Paleo!

Eco at Heart Stainless Steel Drinking Straws GIVEAWAY!

10/6/2014

I like using straws.  So do my girls.  My husband?  Not as much, although he's fine with 'em from time to time.

We use straws a lot in our home.  I know, I know, it's kind of like the spoiled American thing to do, right?

So I have this giant bag of plastic straws that I bought at Costco.  It takes us about 2-3 years to go through one big bag of straws, but we eventually do.

For those of you who cringe at the thought of throwing away all those plastic straws and their paper wrappers every day, I'm sorry.  It doesn't bother me as much as it should, but it's starting to.  A few years ago, though, we did begin transitioning away from using plastics with foods, and we have done better in that department.

I'd heard of stainless steel straws before, but hadn't ever bought any of 'em.

Probably because I had sooooooo many plastic straws in my house already, right?  ☺

And I hadn't been all that crazy about the plastic reusable straws that I've seen and purchased.  They're not as easy to clean out and reuse.

But these new stainless steel straws by Eco at Heart came my way, and I decided to give them a try.

Oh, my!  I had no idea how much I would like these straws!
Picture

These 18/8 stainless steel straws are strong and durable, strong enough to double as a "stir stick"...very smooth...and w-i-d-e, and 8.5" long.  They're not going to rust or bend.

I really liked the W-I-D-E part.  ☺ They're actually 3/8" wide, larger than a normal straw, and they are perfect for thick smoothies, shakes, and protein shakes.  Just perfect!  Even if my smoothie, shake, or protein drink has a few bits of fruit in it, no problem!

I also have used these straws with "The Shrinker", a homemade, low-calorie oolong tea beverage I make.  Because I like my beverages chilled and kept cold, these straws are great because stainless steel gets cold quickly, and I really like the chilled straw effect.

These straws can even be kept cold in the freezer...but don't use them with hot beverages, or - ouch!  You'll burn your mouth.

One of the other things I noticed with the Eco at Heart stainless steel straws is that they have no odor or taste.  So don't be worried about a metallic taste to your beverage, or about your straw retaining odors from milk or juices.

When my stainless steel straws arrived in the mail, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they came with a miniature brush designed to clean out the straws.  The straw cleaner brush works well - yes!  But if you want, these straws are also dishwasher safe.

Picture
If you decide to purchase some Eco at Heart Stainless Steel Straws, you'll notice that for Amazon Prime members, the shipping is free.

Yes, these are more expensive than plastic or throwaway straws.  $14.97 for five straws is more expensive than the cheaper options.  But these are going to last my family a lot longer than any of the plastic straws I've seen in the stores.  And this will help us to no longer purchase the throwaway straws that only get one use.  That's a good thing!

When these are ordered through Amazon.com, you'll also receive a free eBook packed with 25 smoothie recipes.

Please enter our GIVEAWAY for one five-straw box of
