If you've been following Joy In Our Journey for any length of time, you know that I often will share reviews and giveaways of family-friendly DVDs. So our family was excited - even though our children are now teenagers - to receive VeggieTales' new DVD: Beauty and the Beet: A Lesson in Unconditional Love This brand-new VeggieTales musical was just released, and it is cute, clever, and touching all at the same time. I think it's one of my favorite VeggieTales DVDs I've seen yet! Beauty and the Beet stars Kellie Pickler (American Idol, Dancing With the Stars), who brings her unmistakable voice to the role of Mirabelle, a sweet-potato singer whose family band is on the brink of superstardom. Beauty and the Beet blends the irresistible charm of VeggieTales with a heartfelt message about unconditional love. The DVD also includes Mac and Cheese, a giddy new “Silly Songs With Larry” segment in which Larry the Cucumber reveals the surprising and heretofore untold history of his family’s unexpected contributions to Italian cuisine. This new DVD is just the start of the fun in store this fall for VeggieTales fans, because the gang will also star in a brand-new Netflix original series, VeggieTales In the House, which premieres Thanksgiving weekend. Here's the trailer for Beauty and the Beet:

If you see this posted elsewhere, it has been illegally scraped, and I'd love it if you would let me know. Thanks! I like using straws. So do my girls. My husband? Not as much, although he's fine with 'em from time to time. We use straws a lot in our home. I know, I know, it's kind of like the spoiled American thing to do, right? So I have this giant bag of plastic straws that I bought at Costco. It takes us about 2-3 years to go through one big bag of straws, but we eventually do. For those of you who cringe at the thought of throwing away all those plastic straws and their paper wrappers every day, I'm sorry. It doesn't bother me as much as it should, but it's starting to. A few years ago, though, we did begin transitioning away from using plastics with foods, and we have done better in that department. I'd heard of stainless steel straws before, but hadn't ever bought any of 'em. Probably because I had sooooooo many plastic straws in my house already, right? ☺ And I hadn't been all that crazy about the plastic reusable straws that I've seen and purchased. They're not as easy to clean out and reuse. But these new stainless steel straws by Eco at Heart came my way, and I decided to give them a try. Oh, my! I had no idea how much I would like these straws!
These straws can even be kept cold in the freezer...but don't use them with hot beverages, or - ouch! You'll burn your mouth. One of the other things I noticed with the Eco at Heart stainless steel straws is that they have no odor or taste. So don't be worried about a metallic taste to your beverage, or about your straw retaining odors from milk or juices. When my stainless steel straws arrived in the mail, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they came with a miniature brush designed to clean out the straws. The straw cleaner brush works well - yes! But if you want, these straws are also dishwasher safe.
