Have you ever traveled to or lived in Alaska?
I'd always wanted to travel to Alaska, and about eight years ago, I was invited by my identical twin sister, Kristina, and her husband to fly to Alaska with them and help them transition their growing family to a new life in a new state.
I've spent time with them in Alaska in two very different parts of the state, during two separate trips. While their first location would have taken me quite a long time to get used to, in the same way if I'd moved to a remote village in Africa or South America, their second location is beautiful and amazing! The scenery is gorgeous, and the people are so friendly. The weather is bitterly cold in the winter, but it is still a beautiful place, and my sister and her family absolutely love living there and wouldn't trade it for anything!
When I learned that Ocieanna Fleiss and Tricia Goyer, both experienced authors, had co-written a new Christian fiction book where the setting was in both modern Alaska and early Alaska, I was excited to be able to sit down with a new book in a beautiful setting!
Because of the many books already written by Ocieanna and Tricia, they make a great writing team. A lot of Christian fiction works are just, well, plain "fluffy." Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska is part of a series of "Love Finds You in..." (small town, U.S.A.). If you're familiar with that series, you'll be thrilled that a new book in the series has been released. Love Finds You In... books take a close look at a small town in the U.S.A. that doesn't seem prestigious or flashy, and shows us something amazing about some of the people who have lived in that community.
I read Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska in a couple of days' time. That's quick for me - I'm usually so busy that it takes me longer to read a book! What I enjoyed was getting to know characters that had depth and personality. The story intrigued me as I was carried chapter by chapter through modern scenes and happenings and then being pulled into a series of letters that carried amazing weight and advice for when they were written and for our times today.
If you enjoy looking at old photographs or reading through old letters, there is some wonderful wisdom found within the pages of this book!
Are you wondering how "appropriate" the romance was in this Christian fiction book? Not all Christian fiction books are written in a style that I would call "appropriate" for Christian readers. Well, the mushiness factor of Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska was just right. Yes, it's a romance...but the authors wisely kept things under control, making this book appropriate for just about any audience.
That's important to me. I don't want my daughters reading books that have inappropriate content within the pages, and I don't want to read that, either.
Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska is filled with adventure, heartache, budding relationships, people connecting in heart-to-heart friendships, and working through past emotional difficulties and hang-ups.
