After reading the following list of words, would you conclude that this list of words includes: a. medical terminology for nursing school; b. choices for a challenging crossword puzzle; or c. my child's spelling list?
If you guessed that this bizarre list of words is from my child's spelling list, you guessed correctly! No, I'm not offering spelling studies as cruel and unusual punishment, though at times one of my children may complain that it is so. :) Actually, my girls finished their spelling curriculum several years ago, so we began having them study for our community's annual spelling bee. Our oldest daughter, Kelsi, came in 2nd place at the county spelling bee two separate years; 6th place one year; and in her final year as an eligible participant in the spelling bee, she won! Along with a giant trophy, she also won a laptop computer and many accessories to go along with it. With her two other second place wins, she also won a iPod Shuffle, an iTunes gift card, and a Kindle. Nice! |
Right now we use flashcards. Magnetic letter tiles make it more fun...
We've been using spellingcity.com this school year for the first time, and it has made spelling literally a DREAM come true for us. HOWEVER, I'm really interested in the SpellQuizzer software, since I have at least one child who does spelling bees. And I haven't attempted to put extremely difficult words into spellingcity yet.
Gretta, just so you know, SpellQuizzer isn't a spelling curriculum; it's a software program that helps children study words they are already learning in their school or homeschooling. SpellQuizzer won't help determine if your child's spelling words are at the right level for him/her, but it will show you the child's scores.
We currently are using a workbook and iPad app together. I'm always up for trying something new though. : )
We have used Spelling City online and All About Spelling curriculum.
My middle child just brought home his first list of spelling words this week :) So this sounds like a wonderful program for him. Thanks
SpellQuizzer sounds like a great program. :-)
We are currently using a workbook curriculum, but it seems that the kids memorize the spellings long enough to take the quiz on Friday and then forget what they have learned a few weeks down the road. I would love to try this program to see if it helps!
We are currently using a different program, but we have heard alot of good about this one!!
I'm still using just book and verbal spell quizing. This program sounds wonderful and I'd love to give it a try.
